The path of L-tryptophan in the body
L-tryptophan is converted into serotonin by your body as soon as it reaches your brain after consumption. Having enough serotonin in your body allows your brain to convert this serotonin into melatonin, also known colloquially as the "sleep hormone".
The pineal gland in the brain produces melatonin in the dark. Melatonin thus helps to prepare the body for the sleep phase and influences the day-night rhythm.
L-Tryptophan is essential
The L-tryptophan capsules provide your body with the essential amino acid in high doses. The body cannot produce it on its own and yet it is needed by everyone. The amino acid L-tryptophan is therefore an essential amino acid that you must actively supply to your body from outside.
In general, your body uses amino acids to produce proteins that perform a variety of tasks and functions. In addition to transport proteins, there are also so-called structural proteins, for example. However, amino acids are also broken down and converted in the body to form other endogenous substances.
Enjoy a healthy sleep
Your body needs sufficient sleep. During the sleep rest phase, the body regenerates, giving you the energy you need for the following day. Exactly how much sleep a person needs is very individual. On average, an individual needs around six to nine hours of sleep a day.
No matter how many hours you sleep, always avoid falling short of your individual sleep quota. People who regularly deprive themselves of sleep often feel tired and lack energy.
Sleep disorders are widespread
You suffer from chronic insomnia if you do not sleep consistently or restfully three or more nights a week for longer than a month and feel tired or irritable as a result. If you suffer from these symptoms, you are by no means the only one, as it is estimated that around 30 percent of the population in Germany is affected by sleep disorders.
Lack of sleep and its consequences
Lack of sleep makes you feel exhausted and unable to concentrate. Even looking in the mirror in the morning may shock you with deep circles under your eyes. You had planned to go to bed as early as possible, but something important got in the way. You may also have gone to bed early but not got to rest in time because you are worried about something and can't switch off your worrisome thoughts in the evening. No matter which scenario is the cause of your lack of sleep, the consequences will always be unpleasant.
L-tryptophan is confirmed by studies
L-tryptophan is a food for special medical purposes for dietary management of sleep disorders. Studies have proven the sleep-promoting properties of this essential amino acid.
L-tryptophan is converted into serotonin in the body, which is the starting substance for the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin. Take two capsules containing a total of 1000 milligrams of the essential amino acid L-tryptophan about half an hour before going to sleep to effectively get to grips with sleep disorders.
It is sufficient to take 2 capsules of L-tryptophan from BIOVIGO® per day. These contain 1000 milligrams of the essential amino acid.
Getting the same amount from food would be a challenge. You would have to consume around 170 grams of soya beans, eat around 600 grams of walnuts, drink a good two litres of cow's milk with 3.8 per cent fat or eat around one kilogram of unpeeled rice.
Carbohydrates increase the absorption of L-tryptophan
A valuable tip is to consume a carbohydrate-rich snack or drink, such as fruit juice, with the L-tryptophan capsules. This can help with the absorption of L-tryptophan in the brain.
Avoid protein-rich meals before or during L-tryptophan consumption. This is because they inhibit the absorption of L-tryptophan into the brain. Every protein is made up of amino acids, into which they are broken down again during digestion. If these amino acids reach the blood-brain barrier at the same time as the L-tryptophan, the individual amino acids compete with each other. As a result, the more amino acids there are in your blood, the less L-tryptophan your brain absorbs.
